The Oak Grove boys soccer team fell to Harrisonville in overtime but Panthers first-year coach Zach Herzig was still encouraged.
Seth Wiebush scored in the second minute of overtime – his second goal of the game – to lift Harrisonville to a 3-2 Missouri River Valley Conference West victory Thursday at Oak Grove.
“This game shows us that we are the real deal and that we can compete with anyone if we play our game,” Herzig said. “It is always hard to be on the losing side of a game like this because it could have gone either way. I am still so proud of the boys, they left it all on the field and that is all I ask from them. This makes a statement that Oak Grove soccer means business this year.”
Dalton Smith scored in the 38th minute, and Jacob Leamon added his 28 goal of the season in the 56th minute to send it into overtime for Oak Grove. Leamon is now just five goals shy of his brother Zach Leamon’s single-season record of 33.
Oak Grove goalkeeper Isaiah Weathers made six saves to keep the Panthers in it.
“Isaiah Weathers had his best game all year,” Herzig said.
LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 1, PARK HILL SOUTH 0: Lee’s Summit North scored in overtime to improve to 10-4 overall with a non-conference home victory Wednesday.
