The Grain Valley volleyball team went 4-1 before falling in the semifinals of the Carl Junction Tournament this weekend.

The Eagles defeated Bentonville (Ark.) West 17-25, 25-20, 15-9; Republic 25-15, 25-18; and Nevada 25-17, 25-13 in pool play.

They defeated Lebanon 25-22, 2-11 before losing to Carl Junction in the semifinals 25-22, 25-20.

Asya Harris totaled a team-high 26 kills in the tournament, Karly Tharp had 21 and Kelsey Gauldin had 19.

Tharp led the Eagles (12-5-2) with 30 digs and Gracie LaForge had 10 blocks.

“Our first game out was a slow start but after we picked it up,” Grain Valley coach Keri Peterson said. “We had a great overall day of play. Our offense was very balanced in kills and high in hitting efficiency.”
