The Blue Springs boys swimming and diving team captured five event wins to top state power Park Hill and host Raymore-Peculiar Tuesday.

Shaun Van Hoesen led the way for the Wildcats, winning the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 11.04 seconds) and the 500 freestyle (5:19.57), both in state consideration times.

Blue Springs edged Park Hill 142-136 and beat Ray-Pec 162-95.

"This team amazes me more and more every day,” Wildcats coach Kevin Bigham said. “We were sore and tired but we persevered and found a way to beat one of the best teams in the state.

"These guys have a knack for pulling off close wins and I couldn't be happier."

Park Hill has won state trophies for top-four finishes in three of the last four years. Blue Springs improved to 12-2 in dual meets after going 4-12 last season.

Van Hoesen also teamed with Cogan Davis, Tim Schweizer and Sam Aubuchon for a win in the 200 medley relay (1:47.31). Davis won the 100 backstroke (1:00.76) and Schweizer prevailed in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.87). Aubuchon took second in the 50 freestyle (23.95) and 100 freestyle (53.83).
