Another strong effort by the defense led the Grain Valley boys soccer team to another win.
Nate Booker recorded the shutout in goal – his fifth in seven games – as the Eagles downed host Kearney 4-0 for a non-conference win Monday.
Jake Simpson and Logan Welle each scored two goals as the Eagles improved to 10-7 overall.
“I thought we played good team soccer tonight and moved the ball around nicely,” Grain Valley coach Tyler Nichol said. “Credit to our defense who has been rock solid lately. We’ve only given up two goals in our last seven games with five shutouts in that span.”
LEE’S SUMMIT 2, BLUE SPRINGS SOUTH 0: Lee’s Summit made two first-half goals stand up to end Blue Springs South’s two-game winning spurt.
The Jaguars had beaten Blue Springs and Lee’s Summit West 3-0 in back-to-back games before being stymied by the Tigers Monday to drop to 7-12 overall and 4-6 in the Suburban Big Seven.
LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 3, LEE’S SUMMIT WEST 2: Lee’s Summit North won a penalty kick shootout 4-2 to edge Lee’s Summit West for a Suburban Big Seven win Monday.
Dasean Ransburg scored both goals for North, including the equalizer with about one minute left in regulation off a pass from Parker Allen.
After neither team was able to score in the the overtime periods, it went to penalty kicks. North’s four shooters – Kyle Rock, AJ James, Mitchell Petersen and Brennon Larsen – all converted while Colin Dooley made two saves to give the Broncos (13-5, 8-2 Big Seven) the win.
