SEDALIA, Mo. – Despite cold and rainy conditions, Fort Osage golfer Gabby Vaoifi improved her score in the second and final round of the state tournament.

The sophomore fired an 81 Tuesday at the par-70 Sedalia Country Club, two strokes better than her opening-round 83, to tie for 23rd place overall at 164, just seven strokes shy of an all-state medal for a top-15 finish.

Blue Springs senior Sierra Heuston failed to move up after her first-round 84, shooting 89 in Tuesday’s final round to finish in a 39th-place tie at 173.

“Today’s weather was brutal with constant rain, 40-degree wind chill and a constant wind,” Blue Springs coach Jill Courter said. “Our girls shot a little higher, which is to be expected in this weather. I know there were many ways they could have cut strokes today, but it was definitely a tougher day mentally, to overcome.”

Blue Springs’ Lauren Muller actually shot better, shooting 86 Tuesday to cut three strokes off Monday’s 88. She tied for 42nd place at 174 with teammate Jordan Marshall, who shot 89 Tuesday after an 85 Monday.

St. Joseph’s Academy of St. Louis overtook first-round leader Notre Dame de Sion to win the team title with a 623 (317-306) total. Sion was second at 633 (315-318). Lee’s Summit West tied for seventh at 734 (360-374).

Notre Dame de Sion’s Megan Propeck earned medalist honors with a total of 141 (71-70).
