ST. PETERS, Mo. – The William Chrisman boys swimming and diving team will likely earn its first team points since 2002.

Senior Daniel Kuropka, a senior exchange student from Slovakia, earned a second-day berth in one event and nearly earned another during the Class 1 Missouri State High School Championships preliminaries Thursday afternoon.

Kuropka swam the 14th-best time in the 100-yard butterfly in Thursday’s Class 1 preliminaries, finishing in 55.65 seconds to claim a spot in the consolation finals at 10 a.m. this morning.

Kuropka also narrowly missed another berth in the 200 individual medley. He will be the first alternate after a 17th-best time of 2 minutes, 6.30 seconds.

Barring a disqualification, Kuropka will earn Chrisman’s first team points since diver Russ Sampson claimed three points in 2002.

Raytown’s Blake Tuder made the finals in both the 50 freestyle (eighth, 22.36) and 100 freestyle (seventh, 49.03).
