ST. PETERS, Mo. — Lee’s Summit North is poised to possibly bring home a state trophy, if not a state title

And Blue Springs South should make some noise as well.

The Broncos earned a spot in the finals or consolation finals in 10 of 11 swimming events – including three No. 1 seeds – after Friday’s preliminaries in the Class 2 Missouri State High School Boys Swimming and Diving Championships at the St. Peters Rec-Plex.

Blue Springs South also advanced several to the second day finals and consolation finals, which start at 3 p.m. Saturday. Diving is scheduled to start at 9 a.m.

Senior Liam Bresette again led the way for Lee’s Summit North with a pair of top times. He earned the top seed in the 200-yard freestyle by nearly 2 seconds with his time of 1 minute, 41.01 seconds. He also will be the man to beat in the 100 freestyle with a time of 45.90 seconds.

The Broncos will also take the top seed into Saturday’s finals in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.76. They are the No. 3 seed in the 400 freestyle relay (3:14.56) and the No. 7 seed in the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.89).

North freshman Lance Godard made it to the finals in two events, taking third in the 100 butterfly (52.73) and eighth in the 200 individual medley (1:56.54). Freshman Daniel Worth also qualified for two finals – in the 200 IM with a sixth-place time of 1:56.00) and the 100 breaststroke with a third-place time of 58.11. Junior Grant Godard made the 100 backstroke finals with a fourth-place time of 53.75.

North junior Jonathan Thomas made the consolation finals in the 200 freestyle (15th, 1:48.03) and 500 freestyle (13th, 4:50.79).

Junior Chase Graham led the way for Blue Springs South, advancing to the finals in two events. He had the seventh-best time in both the 200 freestyle (1:45.26) and 500 freestyle (4:47.11).

South senior Adam Ryan advanced to the consolation finals in the 50 freestyle (15th, 22.74), and the 200 freestyle relay (14th, 1:32.51) and 400 freestyle relay (13th, 3:22.50) also moved on to the second day for the Jaguars. Ryan is also the second alternate in the 100 freestyle (18th, 50.52)

Blue Springs South also has a pair of top divers in Alex Burt and Micah Currie competing this morning.

For Blue Springs, sophomore Tim Schweizer earned the only individual second-day berth. He will swim in the 100 breaststroke consolation finals after an 11th-place time of 1:01.49.

The Wildcats also advanced their 200 medley relay squad to the consolation finals with a tie for 14th in 1:43.29.

Blue Springs junior Sam Aubuchon narrowly missed in the 50 freestyle and is the second alternate at 18th (22.86). The Wildcats were also 19th in the 400 freestyle relay.

CLASS 1: William Chrisman senior Daniel Kuropka claimed the first team state points for William Chrisman since 2002 by winning the consolation finals and taking ninth in the 100-yard butterfly in the Class 1 finals Friday morning.

He finished in 54.65 seconds, dropping a second off his preliminary time of 55.65. Chrisman finished 32nd in the team standings with nine points.
