The Fort Osage girls basketball team already matched its win total from last season just two games into its 2017-18 campaign.
Alecia Monday (15 points), Kiyley Flowers (14) and Hailey Chase (12) all scored in double digits to lead the Indians to a 62-50 win over Grandview in a consolation semifinal in the Winnetonka Tournament.
Fort Osage led 16-14 after the first quarter and 24-23 at halftime. The Indians began to pull away in the third and went into the fourth up 43-34.
“Good win for (us),” Fort Osage head coach Lindsey Thompson said after her team improved to 2-1. “We improve each game. Daysia Fenner rebounded the heck out of the ball tonight.”
LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 72, ST. TERESA’S ACADEMY 70: The Broncos bounced back from a loss in their season opener with a win against the Stars in the first round of the Lee’s Summit North Invitational Monday.
Aiyana Johnson led North (1-1) with 31 points and 11 rebounds, Anija Frazier added 20 points and tiana Gipson had seven.
The Broncos led 23-15 at the end of the first period and went into halftime up 43-31. The Stars stormed back with a second half in which they outscored North 39-29, but in the end, it was not enough.
