After a lopsided loss in the first round of the State Farm Holiday Hoops Invitational at Jefferson City Helias Catholic High School, the Blue Springs girls basketball team bounced back with a 55-40 win over Quincy (Illinois) Friday in the consolation bracket.
The game was tied 11-11 at the end of the first period, and the Jaguars (3-5) took a 28-20 lead into halftime. The Jags pushed that lead to 40-31 going into the fourth and eventually pulled away.
“We felt like what we finally played as hard as we are capable of,” South coach Kory Lower said. “We played well for all four quarters for the first time this season and not just in spurts. And we saw the results of that.”
Derrian Ford led South with 15 points and Kaylee Connors had 13.
SMITHVILLE 59, OAK GROVE 28: The Panthers fell to 3-6 on the season following a loss to the Warriors in the North Central Missouri College Shootout Friday in Trenton.
OAK GROVE 74, VAN HOORN 69: The Panthers improved to 8-2 on the season with a non-conference victory over the Falcons Friday.
The Falcons fell to 2-6.
