Former Oak Grove four-time state champion Connor Brown is excelling in college wrestling.

Brown, a 125-pound freshman for South Dakota State University, was named Wednesday as Big 12 Wrestler of the Week after winning a pair of matches in dual action against league foes.

Brown, who won his four state titles for Oak Grove, opened the week with an 8-6 victory over Wyoming's Drake Foster in a 20-18 SDSU victory on Jan. 18.

Three days later, Brown rallied for a second-period pin against 18th-ranked Jay Schwarm of Northern Iowa. Brown trailed 6-0 early, but came back to tie match at 8 with a pair of reversals and four-point near-fall at the end of the first period. He then opened the second period with his third reversal of the match, which he turned into a pin.

Brown improved to 16-9 overall and 7-4 in duals with the pair of victories. His wins also propelled him into the individual national rankings for the first time in his collegiate career as he was tabbed 20th at 125 pounds by FloWrestling.
