The Blue Springs South girls basketball team bounced back from a first-round loss in the North Kansas City Invitational.

The Jaguars used a strong defensive effort to stymie Columbia Hickman in a 39-33 win in the consolation semifinal Wednesday night at North Kansas City High School.

Logan Abernathy scored 13 points and Kaylee Connors added 11 to lead South, which improved to 8-10.

The Jaguars outscored the Kewpies 12-7 in the second quarter to break a 7-7 first-quarter deadlock and grab a 19-14 halftime advantage.

The Jaguars held on from there to advance to today’s 6:30 p.m. consolation final against St. Pius X or Kansas City (Kan.) Schlagle.

Aiyana Johnson scored 13 points, Micaela Dickerson tallied 10 and Tiana Gipson added eight as the Broncos dropped to 5-1 in the conference and 11-5 overall.
