The Blue Springs South girls basketball team battled back from an early deficit to take a 35-30 halftime lead, but it was unable to hang on in a 60-53 loss to Kansas City (Kan.) Schlagle in the consolation finals of the North Kansas City Invitational.

Schlagle outscored South 15-5 in the third and 15-13 in the fourth.

“We played well in the first half,” South coach Kory Lower said. “We just turned it over too much in the second half and came out flat in the third. That was the difference.”

Kaylee Connors led the Jaguars (8-11) with 18 points and Logan Abernathy and Derrian Ford added 10 points apiece.

STALEY 69, FORT OSAGE 49: Fort Osage couldn’t overcome Staley’s 17-0 run in the second quarter in a Suburban Middle Six road loss Thursday.

The Indians trailed just 18-12 after the first quarter but fell behind 37-21 by halftime after Staley’s spree.

Kiyley Flowers scored 20 points and Camryn Miller added seven to lead Fort Osage, which dropped to 8-7 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
