The Blue Springs South baseball team looked dead in the water down 8-2 going into the top of the sixth inning Saturday.
But the Jaguars responded by seven unanswered runs in the final two innings for a 9-8 non-conference win over host Rockhurst.
South (4-0) scored nine runs on nine hits and committed just one error.
The Jaguars used six different pitchers in the game. Caleb Israelite pitched the sixth inning and picked up the win and Dustin Brewer got the save after a scoreless seventh inning. Brewer and John Herrman each had two hits for the Jaguars.
"It was not pretty, but we will take the win any day,” Jaguars coach Ben Baier. “We are still learning about who we are as a team. It was only our fourth game of the season, which is crazy. We had one inning get away from us and we were fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of some opportunities that they gave us later in the game. That being said, our guys did a good job of staying with it and competing throughout. We have a long way to go in this season and we will need to continue to grow and improve as a team in the next few weeks."
