The Blue Springs South boys tennis team had a strong showing in the Park Hill Doubles Tournament as it claimed second place Wednesday.
The Jaguars lost 3-1 to Lee’s Summit in the finals. Justin Cooper and Sammy Klosener got the lone win with a 8-3 victory.
In pool play, the Jaguars went 2-0-1 with a 4-0 victory against Park Hill, a 3-1 win against Liberty North and a 2-2 tie with Maranatha Christian Academy.
Grain Valley finished fifth and Blue Springs was eighth.
OAK PARK 6, TRUMAN 3: Cooper Clements won his singles and doubles matches for the Patriots, but it wasn’t enough as his team fell to the Oak Park Northmen Wednesday at Santa Fe Trail Park.
Clements, Truman’s No. 3 singles player, won 11-9 and No. 2 Bryce Idoni also won 11-9 for Patriots. Clements also teamed with Blake Savidge for an 8-3 win in No. 1 doubles.
However, Oak Park won four singles and two doubles matches to claim the win.
"Oak Park impressed with smart, competitive matches in both singles and doubles,” Truman coach Scott Lett said. “While we won two of the four close singles matches, we only won one of the five remaining matches. We have to compete on every court, every match. We're working on that every day in practice. It's a process. Oak Park showed us where we need to be."
NORTH KANSAS CITY 9, WILLIAM CHRISMAN 0: The Bears couldn’t get going against Suburban Middle Six rival North Kansas City in a loss Tuesday.
No. 1 singles player Brett Wilson and No. 5 Caysen Woods came the closest to winning for the Bears with 8-5 losses.
"I always tell my guys to expect North Kansas City to not beat themselves,” Chrisman coach Jason Grubb said. “They keep their ground strokes in, don't double-fault and use smart angles on their shots. Today, we saw that on display,"
Chrisman’s junior varsity team fell 5-4.
