The Grain Valley girls soccer team had never really been challenged by any team in the Missouri River Valley Conference West this season.

That was until the Eagles played Pleasant Hill Thursday.

It was a close one, but Grain Valley remained undefeated in the conference after a 5-3 win against the Chicks.

Rylan Childers led the Eagles with two goals, while Abby Berg, Kailey Larson and Kailey Boyer each added one. Marissa Schmitt, Rylan Childers and Raena Childers each had an assist for the Eagles (18-2-1) who improved to 8-0 in the MRVC West.

Mackenzie Dimarco had all of Pleasant Hill’s goals.

“We played well for spells tonight, but we are not happy giving up three goals,” Grain Valley coach Tyler Nichol said. “We have to take more pride in defending together as a unit, stay more focused for the whole 80 minutes and be more aware of our positioning versus where the other team’s forwards are.”

HERITAGE CHRISTIAN 5, VAN HORN 0: The Falcons fell to 9-10 overall and 1-3 in the Crossroads Conference after a loss to Heritage Christian Thursday.

Van Horn couldn’t recover after falling behind 2-0 after the first half.
