After nearly a two-week layoff, the Blue Springs Rod’s Sports A’s got strong pitching then strong hitting to sweep an American Legion baseball Zone 2 doubleheader from host St. Joseph Post 11 Wednesday.

The A’s won the first game 4-1 and completed the sweep with a 10-0 five-inning victory in the nightcap.

A’s starter Jake Lufft threw a complete game gem, allowing five hits and no walks while striking out 13.

Tied 1-1, the A’s pieced together three hits and two walks to score three runs in the sixth inning to grab the lead.

The A’s collected 11 hits in the second game, led by Spencer Patrick’s home run, single and two RBIs. Lufft, who had two RBIs, and Anthony Gunn each had three hits and CJ July doubled and singled to help lead Blue Springs.

Will Heller allowed just one hit and no walks while striking out two in five innings for the win as the A’s improved to 13-1 overall and 4-0 in Zone 2 play.
