The Kansas City Comets are bringing back a familiar face.

The Comets announced Monday a contract extension for Ignacio “Nacho” Flores through the 2019-20 season, pending visa approval.

“I am so happy to be part of the Comets,” Flores said in a press release. “After my first year I really got a good feeling for how this game is played and I think it showed last season. Now I’m ready to take the next step and be successful here in Kansas City.”

The 2018-19 season will be the third in the Major Arena Soccer League for Flores. The former Park University standout has appeared in every game since joining the Comets for the 2016-17 season. He had a modest rookie campaign with five goals and six assists in 20 games but blossomed last season.

Flores scored 16 goals and added 19 assists for 35 points. He was named to the Week 3 Team of the Week and was named All-MASL Honorable Mention.

“He’s an exciting player, but more than that I think the game is starting to slow down for him and he is going to be getting better every season,” Comets coach Kim Roentved said in the release. “We’re expecting big things from him and I’m glad he’s going to be sticking around.”

The Comets open the home part of their 2018-19 season Dec. 15 at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. The opponent and the rest of the schedule will be announced this fall.
