The Blue Springs South softball team waited out a lengthy rain delay, but the results were worth it in the War on the Battlefield Tournament Friday in Columbia.

After the long delay, the Jaguars routed Sedalia Smith-Cotton 15-0 and then topped tournament host Columbia Battle 3-0 to improve to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the tourney.

Elle Smith tripled and scored on Addie Lightner’s RBI single to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning against Battle. Abby Sciara and Bailey Brumley added RBI singles in the third inning. Lightner finished 2-for-3.

Easton Seib blanked the Spartans, walking three and striking out three in five innings.

With the win, the Jaguars advanced to Saturday’s semifinals.

It only took 3 1/2 innings to get past Smith-Cotton, as the Jaguars scored three in the first and six in each of the second and third innings.

Seib allowed two hits and a walk while striking out five for the win.

Lightner (double, four RBIs), Sciara (two doubles, three RBIs) and Regi Hecker (double, one RBI) all went 3-for-3.

Sophie Lopez added two hits, including a double, and four RBIs, Seib had doubled and singled with two RBIs and Tori Bradley had two hits and an RBI for the Jaguars.
