The Oak Grove boys soccer team used a strong first half to claim the title in its own Panther Cup tournament.

The Panthers built a 3-0 halftime advantage on the way to a 5-1 over Lone Jack in the round-robin tournament finale Thursday.

Isaiah Weathers led the way, scoring a pair of goals to help Oak Grove improve to 3-2 overall. Nate Wood, Matt Sudario and Gael Perez each added a goal.

SMITHVILLE 3, GRAIN VALLEY 0: Grain Valley was unable to muster an attack in its Suburban Small Seven debut.

Host Smithville scored a pair of goals in the first 20 minutes and went on to blank the Eagles Thursday.

“We were flat out outplayed,” Eagles coach Tyler Nichol said after his team dropped to 1-2-1 overall. “We gave up two goals from corner kicks in the first 20 minutes and really put ourselves behind the 8-ball. We take a lot of pride in set pieces and will definitely look to improve in that area. Will look to bounce back in conference play next week.”

SHAWNEE MISSION WEST 2, LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 1: Lee’s Summit North couldn’t make an early 1-0 lead hold up in a loss to the Vikings in the KA-MO Classic semifinals Thursday at the Blue Valley Athletic Complex.

Carson Wilcox scored off a Matthew Hopkins pass in the 24th minute to put the Broncos ahead. West tied two minutes later, scoring off a rebound off North goalkeeper John Foster.

West scored on a counter attack midway through the second half to hand the Broncos (3-1) their first loss.

North faces Shawnee Mission East or Blue Valley North in the third-place match at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
