The Oak Grove softball team continued its strong start to this season Thursday.
The Panthers rallied from a 4-2 deficit to claim an 11-5 Missouri River Valley Conference West win over host Pleasant Hill.
Hailee Hodges helped power the 15-hit attack by going 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs.
“It was a good first conference win,” Oak Grove coach Brandi Thomsen said. “I am pleased with the overall effort by our team. They are learning and gaining confidence every game. Sadie Loney threw a great game allowing only one earned run. Hailee Hodges anchored us at the plate and Bailee Martin did a great job for us on defense.”
Loney allowed seven hits and no walks in the complete-game win. She also went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Summer Collier was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs.
The Panthers (5-1, 1-0 MRVC West) scored three runs in the fourth inning to grab a 5-4 lead, and they added four in the fifth and two in the sixth.
WEST PLATTE 11, ST. MICHAEL 1: Riley Dobson went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI at the plate but suffered the loss as St. Michael the Arrchangel Catholic fell to West Platte Thursday.
“We started off on top with a run in the first inning. Dobson pitched well for us and gave our defense lots of opportunities to make plays,” Guardians coach Samantha Olsen said. “As a team, we have been focusing on intensity on and off the field.
LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 14, BELTON 1: Cierra Harrison earned the win as the Broncos routed visiting Belton Thursday.
The Broncos improved to 5-2 overall.
