The losing streak is over.
Oak Grove broke to a 5-0 lead and went on to stop Higginsville 7-5 in a non-conference game Friday, snapping a 15-game losing streak.
Because of rain, the game was moved from Higginsville to Oak Grove. Higginsville remained the home team.
“Our guys played well again tonight and this time they were able to get a victory in the end,” Oak Grove coach Kirk Sears said. “Vince Walrath did a nice job on the mound to earn his first varsity win of his career. We did a nice job with the bats early and we were able to hold on in the end as Higginsville mounted a comeback in the first two innings.
“Our guys were able to step up and make the plays when they had to. We will try to build on this win and keep the momentum going as we enter the last week of the regular season.”
Walrath pitched 41⁄3 innings for the win, striking out four, walking two and spacing five hits.
Jacob Horn singled twice and doubled with one RBI in leading a 10-hit attack for Oak Grove (2-18). Zach Taylor singled and doubled.
BLUE SPRINGS 6, ST. JOSEPH CENTRAL 1: Jake Kissner was too much for St. Joseph Central.
He pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts as host Blue Springs stopped St. Joseph Central 6-1 in a Suburban Big Seven game.
“Jake pitched another good game,” Blue Springs coach Marc Hines said. “We gave him some good run support. It was a positive end to a week that started slow.”
Sam Guffey had a three-run homer and Keeston Terry opened with a leadoff homer and Evan Berndt singled and doubled in pacing an eight-hit attack for the Wildcats (10-9, 5-4). Central was 6-11, 2-8).
A four-run first inning set in motion the Blue Spring win.
BLUE SPRINGS SOUTH 4, RAYMORE-PECULIAR 2: Solid pitching and timely hitting lifted Blue Springs South to a Suburban Big Seven victory at Raymore-Peculiar.
Austin Rodriguez scattered seven hits and struck out six for the win. Nick Gast doubled twice with three RBIs and Danny McMurtrey singled and tripled with one RBI for the Jaguars (9-7, 4-3).
Single runs in the fifth and sixth inning snapped a 2-2 tie and gave South the victory.
“It was nice to get a road win,” Jaguars coach Ben Baier said. “This helps us for the stretch confidence-wise. We ran the bases well. We did the small things right. The attitude was good.”
GRAIN VALLEY 6, HARRISONVILLE 3: Key hits sparked Grain Valley to a Missouri River Valley West Division victory at Harrisonville.
“David Duncan got a big hit in the fifth inning and George Cruz gave us some insurance runs in the seventh,” Grain Valley coach Mark Lyford said. “This was a nice win.”
Duncan doubled in two runs in the fifth inning, giving the Eagles (13-3, 5-1) a 3-0 lead. George Cruz singled in two runs during a three-run seventh inning. Jake Talamonte singled twice
Payton Bosserman scattered six hits, walked one and struck out nine in a winning complete game performance.
FORT OSAGE 11, NORTH KANSAS CITY 1: Johnnie Johnson scattered three hits and struck out seven and Alex Greer blasted a two-run homer and Chad Gordon a three-run shot to lead host Fort Osage to an easy Suburban Middle Six victory.
Spencer Gearhart added two singles and a triple with one RBI to the attack for Fort Osage (9-9, 3-5). North Kansas City fell to 13-8, 5-4.
“We came out and swung the bats well,” Fort Osage coach Chris Walker said. “Johnson had the best stuff he has all season.”
The game was called in the bottom of the fifth inning because of the mercy rule after the Indians scored four runs.
PARK HILL 12, TRUMAN 0: The Patriots Suburban Big Six title hopes took a major hit in a shutout loss at Park Hill.
“It was a lackluster and embarrassing performance all the way around,” Truman coach John Eglich said.
Clay Smith scattered five hits and struck out eight for the win. Park Hill (10-8, 4-4) scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game because of the mercy rule.

LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 15, STALEY 8: Lee’s Summit North overcame a 6-4 opening-inning deficit for a non-conference win at Staley.
North (19-3) went ahead to stay 8-6 with four runs in the second inning.
The Broncos had 18 hits. Caleb Cole had three singles and a double, Daniel Fuchs added two singles and a double, Brad Phillips had two singles and three RBI, Gavin Stark slugged a two-run homer and Austin Hill hit a single and two-run homer.
“I was glad to get out of there with a win,” North coach Jeff Diekmann said.
RAYTOWN 5, BELTON 3: A three-run first inning ignited Raytown to a Suburban Middle Six victory over Belton at Robinson school.
“We got the monkey off our back,” Raytown coach Jaime Oyler said.
Cody Robinson pitched 61⁄3 innings for the win, striking out eight and walking one.
Nick Doughty doubled twice, Vince Spilker singled twice and Chase Kuehl doubled, scored twice and had one RBI in powering the Blue Jays (8-13, 2-5). Belton fell to 8-10 and 3-4.
