Payton Bosserman, the record-setting senior from Grain Valley High School, wrapped up his brilliant high school career Saturday when he played for the Class 3 West team in the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches All-Star Game at Lindenwood College outside of St. Louis.
“I’m excited,” said Bosserman, who said he and his family would leave for St. Louis early Saturday morning. “You have to be excited about playing in any kind of an all-star game.”
Bosserman, who won eight games last season and holds the school record for most career wins (19) and strikeouts (206), hopes to get on the mound in the all-star classic.
“I can’t wait to face some of the best players in the state,” he said. “You have to be mentally and physically ready for a game like this, because every guy you face is going to be pretty good. I can’t wait for that kind of challenge.”
The Bosserman family will be putting plenty of miles on their car this weekend as they return following the game then out for the annual Oak Grove American Legion Post 341 trip to the Dakotas.
“I’m excited about that trip, too,” Bosserman said. “It’s a lot of driving, but it’s worth it.”
Blue Springs South outfielder Logan Moon and Blue Springs South catcher Nick Gast will also play in the series as part of the Class 4 West team.
