Van Horn proved it can win a soccer game with standouts Carlos Contreras and Carlos Borders not scoring a goal.
Midfielders Ricardo Sanchez and Cristobal Murillo provided the offense Thursday as the Falcons edged Fort Osage 2-1 at Indendence All-School Stadium.
“It was good to see other members step up,” Van Horn coach Chris Corrie said. “Fort Osage did a good defense on both of the Carloses.”
Contreras and Borders did contribute, though. Contreras assisted on Sanchez’s goal in the 23rd minute and Borders assisted on Murillo’s goal with 13 minutes left to play.
Tucker Hickey tied the score for Fort Osage (8-11) in the 51st minute. Sixteen minutes later Murillo kicked in the winning goal for the Falcons (10-10)

Marcus Wolfenbarger scored on an assist from Ty Thorp in the 55th minute and the Jaguars held on to improve to 8-8-1 overall and 4-6 in the conference.
“It was nice to get a win,” Jaguars coach Jon Grice said. “We mixed up the game plan a little tonight and the guys responded well to it. It was an overall team win.”
Chance Reed, with help from a strong defensive effort, made four saves to post the shutout.
South’s junior varsity won 3-0.
PEMBROKE HILL 6, OAK GROVE 1: Ross Payne and Jacob Fox each scored three goals to power visiting Pembroke Hill.

The lone goal for Oak Grove (10-9) was scored by Dillon Simpson in the 32nd minute on Brandon Morgason’s assist.
Pembroke Hill also prevailed in the junior varsity game 3-0.
