The Van Horn baseball team had its easiest victory of the season.
The Falcons rolled to a 28-0 Crossroads Conference victory over Renaissance Academy Thursday at Roper Field in Sugar Creek.
Freshman Levi Kelsey pitched a five-inning two-hitter. Phil Hammons singled and doubled with three RBIs and Austin Mayfield doubled twice and hit a three-run homer with six RBIs.
Van Horn (9-8, 4-3) scored 14 runs in the fourth inning.
“Levi pitched a good game,” Van Horn coach Tim Wilson said. “He needed only 60 pitches. It was nice to get a solid game out of him.”
TRUMAN 11, RUSKIN 3: Truman (16-4, 5-3) kept alive its slim Suburban Middle Six title hopes with the 11-3 win over visiting Ruskin.
Tom Ruddy pitched the opening five innings for the victory. Brian Read doubled twice with two RBIs, and J.P. Hayes singled and hit a solo homer to pace the Truman attack.
“It was a good effort after a tough night Monday night at Park Hill (10-5 loss),” Truman coach John Eglich said.
LIBERTY 12, BLUE SPRINGS 2: Suburban Big Six leader Liberty rode a 14-hit attack to an easy 12- 2 home victory over Blue Springs.
“The guys need to regroup,” Blue Springs coach Marc Hines said.
David Stober had three singles. Nick Gulotta had two singles and James McKinley had a double for the Wildcats (8-12, 3-5). Zac Butler suffered the loss.
Liberty coasted after taking a 6-0 lead after two innings.
OAK PARK 11, BLUE SPRINGS SOUTH 10: Host Oak Park rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and one in the seventh to edge the Jaguars (10-13).
“We left 11 runners on base,” South coach Ben Baier said. “We have to play harder and focus a little better or our season will be coming to an end real soon.”
South trailed 8-2 after three innings before taking the lead 10-8 with five runs in the fourth inning and three in the fifth.
A 12-hit South attack featured Kyle Roberts’ two singles and one RBI, Jesse Gray’s single and double, two RBIs and a run scored and Blake Pummill’s two singles and two RBIs.
PARK HILL SOUTH 14, WILLIAM CHRISMAN 0: A poor start cost William Chrisman against Suburban Middle Seven leader and host Park Hill South (10-10, 8-2).
“In 21 of our 23 games, we have allowed runs in the first inning,” Chrisman coach Jim Pickett said. “We were down 7-0 after one inning with three errors and dug ourselves a hole.”
Rob Brockman was a standout for the Bears (2-11, 0-10) with a double, a triple and two RBIs. The loss went to Chase LaFavor.
