Grain Valley’s 14th boys basketball victory was one of the season’s most rewarding.
Daniel Mahurin scored 19 points with five three-pointers and Aaron Winter added 16 as the Eagles upended Lincoln Prep 62-45 in the third-place game of the Grain Valley Sonic Showdown on Saturday.
“To beat a team like Lincoln Prep is huge,” Grain Valley coach Andy Herbert said.
Grain Valley (14-4) never looked back after taking a 25-13 halftime time. The Eagles were in command 42-28 after three quarters.
Mahurin and Caleb McKay were named to the all-tournament team.
WINNETONKA 53, OAK GROVE 44: Winnetonka repeated as the Grain Valley Sonic Showdown champion by defeating the Panthers on Saturday.
Oak Grove (12-5) jumped to a 23-12 opening-quarter lead. The Griffins (12-6) then outscored the Panthers 41-21 the rest of the way, including 20-12 in the fourth quarter for the victory.
Eric Gant led Oak Grove with 23 points, including four 3-pointers. He scored 81 points in the tournament, lifting his season’s total to 344 for a 20.2 average and was an all-tournament selection.
EAST BUCHANAN 67, VAN HORN 40: Visiting Van Horn was no match for East Buchanan on Monday.
Tyler Betts scored 10 points, Denzel Strong eight and Michael Payne seven for the Falcons (3-13).
