The Blue Springs South girls swimming and diving team notched an impressive 4-0 effort in Tuesday night’s quadrangular meet at the Blue Springs YMCA.

The Jaguars beat Sedalia Smith-Cotton 231-50, topped St. Joseph Central 214-87, knocked off Marshall 221-70 and bested O’Hara 236-14.

South rolled with 11 first-place finishes in 12 events. Emily Zweerink reached the state cut in the 100-yard freestyle with a first-place time of 55.72 seconds. She also came in tops in the 200 freestyle (2:08.41) and helped the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay squads to top times.

Morgan Connors added wins in the 50 freestyle (26.35) and 500 freestyle (5:41.63) while also competing on the winning relay teams with Zweerink.

Allie Steinhauser also made the state cut in diving with a second-place total of 227. She finished behind teammate Bre Schlenger (240.05).

“I thought we did very well tonight,” South coach Errich Oberlander said. “Everyone improved quite a bit from our first meet last week. We were very aggressive with our swims and our times improved because of it.”
