“We had the bases loaded with one out two different times,” South coach Ben Baier said. “We just couldn’t get it done.”
South (14-5, 4-4) outhit the Class 4 No. 1 Blue Jays to no avail 8-5. Taylor Sprague had three singles and Jared Ginter two.
Liberty (18-2, 6-2) scored one run in three different innings in maintaining first place in the conference.

WINNETONKA 4, WILLIAM CHRISMAN 1: An improved performance didn’t result in William Chrisman’s first victory of the season.
Host Winnetonka (14-5, 9-1) solidified its Suburban Middle Seven title hopes with the victory.
“It was a better team effort,” Chrisman coach J.R. Wells said. “’It was a step forward. There are still some things we can correct.”
Freshman Gannon Ogle took the loss. David Mooney singled twice for the Bears (0-17, 0-10).
WEST PLATTE 2, ST. MARY’S 1: Two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted host West Platte to the victory.
Bobby Brock spaced four hits in taking the loss. He also singled twice. Michael Thomason doubled and Sam Kenney singled in the lone Trojan run in the first inning.
“Brock pitched his heart out,” St. Mary’s assistant coach Roger Hughes said.
