Led by victories by Ashley Sturman and Corinne Rinne, the Blue Springs girls swimming and diving team captured second place in the Ozarks Invitational Saturday.
The Wildcats totaled 340 points to finish behind Springfield Glendale’s 424. Blue Springs South, which had only divers at the meet, finished 15th with 37 points.
Sturman captured first place in the 500-yard freestyle in a state-qualifying time of 5 minutes, 24.14 seconds and took second in the 200 freestyle in 2:01.18. Rinne claimed a win in the 100 breaststroke in a state time of 1:11.54, while also taking fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:22.83).
The Wildcats took second in the 200 freestyle relay and third in both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
Lindsey Meyer took fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:07.01) and 11th in the 50 (27.16); Liz Oles was seventh in the 100 butterfly (1:06.38) and eighth in the 500 (5:51.90); Murielle Eggers was eighth in both the 200 IM (2:35.49) and 100 breaststroke (1:20.83); Alyssa Aubuchon was eighth in the 50 freestyle (26.71) and 11th in the 100 freestyle (1:00.16); and Angela Anderson was sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:10.30) and 16th in the 100 freestyle (1:03.50). Blue Springs had several other individual double placers in the top 16, including Marie Kurucz, Leigh Ana Dietiker and Jordan Zinke.
In diving, Blue Springs South claimed the top two spots, with Bre Schlenger (378.95) topping teammate Allie Steinhauser (354.30). Blue Springs had three of the next four spots with Mariah Hagerty (third, 352.65), Allie Mata (fifth, 326.35) and Cali Bissell (sixth, 317.10).
