Offense boosts Pats to title game

A 17-hit attack boosted the Truman softball team into the Class 4 District 15 championship.

A seven-run sixth inning blew open a close game and carried the Patriots (26-3) to a 14-4 victory over Winnetonka on Thursday at Liberty High School.

Paige Parker allowed only two hits and struck out 14 for the victory. She also singled twice and doubled. All of the Winnetonka runs were unearned.

Sara Jeffress singled twice and doubled, Kelsi Broyles singled three times, Tori Zorich singled and doubled with three RBIs and Tishina Bradley singled twice in leading the potent Triuman attack.

Truman meets Kearney at 5 p.m. today in the district finals. Kearney stopped Liberty 13-3 in Thursday’s other semifinal.

GRAIN VALLEY 5, OAK GROVE 0: Lexie Worden pitched the Eagles (21-5) into the Class 3 District 14 championship by downing the rival Panthers (7-21) Thursday in Odessa.

Grain Valley will play either Boonville or Odessa at 5 p.m. today for the title.
