The Van Horn soccer team just got a whole lot of momentum heading into districts.

The Falcons trounced Imagine Renaissance 10-0 in a game the mercy rule shortened to 68 minutes.

“It was nice to get a little confidence going into districts,” Van Horn coach Chris Corrie said.

Lexi McDonald led the way for the Falcons with four goals and an assist. Ashley Krantz had two goals and four assists.

Freshman forward Cathy Allen had a tremendous debut with two goals and two assists in her first varsity game. Judith Guillen and Steph Smith each added goal in the blowout.

Van Horn hosts Kansas City Northeast at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the first round of district play.

OAK PARK 1, TRUMAN 0: A tough loss has closed a 10-14 regular season for the  Truman girls soccer team.

Madison Rumbo’s goal in the 39th minute stood up for a 1-0 Oak Park victory over the host Patriots Thursday night.

“We played good defense most of the first half, denying Oak Park any good opportunities,” Truman coach Jared Byrne said. “We had one defensive breakdown in the box with less than a minute left in the half that cost us the game.

“In the second half,  we were able to possess the ball extremely well and move the ball up the field. We just couldn’t capitalize on any of our chances.”

Goalkeeper Ajia Meyer kept Truman in the game with 16 saves. Oak Park outshot Truman 17-4.
