So far so good for the Grain Valley and Oak Grove boys basketball teams in the Sonic Showdown.
Caleb McKay tied his career high with 20 points and Dillon Helsper added 13 and Daniel Mahurin 10 to lead the top-seeded Eagles (13-3) to a 48-39 victory over Imagine Renaissance Academy on Tuesday night at Grain Valley High School. Oak Grove defeated Staley 60-41.
Grain Valley never looked back after outscoring Renaissance 23-16 in the first half.
Grain Valley meets Winnetonka at 6 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals.
Eric Gant powered Oak Grove (11-4) with 22 points.
A strong second half in which they outscored Staley 34-18 gave the Panthers the victory and a berth in the semifinals against Lincoln Prep at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Jordan Douglas added 10 points and Cole Daugherty nine to the Oak Grove attack.
TRUMAN 76, PEMBROKE HILL 51: Antonio Winn and Zach Large nearly outscored the entire Pembroke Hill team.
Winn scored a career-high 28 points and Large added 22 to lead the visiting Patriots to the victory.
Truman (126) sealed its sixth consecutive victory by breaking to a 44-27 halftime lead.
WARSAW 62, VAN HORN 29: Van Horn dug itself an 18-6 opening-quarter hole in falling to Warsaw in the opening round of the Clinton Tournament.
“We’re struggling offensively right now,” Van Horn coach Daniel Bieser said. “Scoring 29 points in a varsity game, you will not win.”
Freshman Josh Meadows led Van Horn (3-11) with seven points.
KANSAS CITY LUTHERAN 65, ST. MARY’S 44: Host Lutheran outscored St. Mary’s 38-17 during the middle two quarters to breeze to the victory.
Michael Thomason’s 13 points led the Trojans (3-13) Drew Huttinger was next with nine.
The Trojans trailed only 15-13 after one quarter before falling behind 31-18 at halftime.
LEE’S SUMMIT 53, LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 49, OT: Lee’s Summit hit 10 of 10 free throws in overtime to stun the rival Broncos in a Suburban Big Six Conference game at Lee’s Summit North High School.
The loss cost North (12-5, 4-2 conference) the conference lead as Blue Springs South moved to the top of the standings with a win over Blue Springs.
North outscored the Tigers 13-6 in the fourth quarter to tie the score 41-41 and force the overtime.
Tory Miller’s 16 points and Will Harrington’s 15 powered the Broncos. Matthew Crance paced the Tigers (4-13, 1-4) with 16.
