Prep softball roundup: Blue Springs offense breaks out in nine-run inning

Blue Springs softball coach Roger Lower finally saw some hitting.

The host Wildcats scored all of their runs on eight hits in the sixth inning for a 9-5 Suburban Big Six victory over Raymore-Peculiar Tuesday.

Kaylie Gilgour went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs to spark the Wildcats (7-4, 2-2 conference). Erin Kenney and Kennedy Dujakovich each singled twice with one RBI.

Tori Aziere pitched the victory.

TRUMAN 4, STALEY 1: Paige Parker allowed only one hit and struck out 14 to lead Truman to the Suburban Middle Six victory at Adair Park. Parker has 167 strikeouts in 80 innings.

Truman (15-1, 4-1) was led in hitting by Sara Jeffress’ double and one RBI, Tori Zorich’s double and Emily VanCompernolle’s single and  RBI.

OAK PARK 3, WILLIAM CHRISMAN 2: The visiting Bears wasted a 12-hit attack in the nine-inning Suburban Middle Seven loss.

Jessica Kreissler singled twice, Jessica Roland singled and doubled and Marina Thomas and Taylor Wiskur each singled twice and doubled to power the Bears (4-10, 2-5).

“It was a really tough loss,” Chrisman coach Lindsey Ramsey said.

Aubrie Dial was the losing pitcher.

BELTON 13, FORT OSAGE 3: Father bested daughter as Belton defeated visiting Fort Osage in a Suburban Middle Seven game.

Belton is coached by Jeff Davis. His daughter, Kelly Sullivan, is the Fort Osage coach.
“We need to learn to finish,” Sullivan said. “We led 2-0 in the third inning.

Mercedes Marriott singled twice, Lauren Schletzbaum doubled in one run and Kenzi Mickey singled twice for the Indians (7-8, 4-2). Katy Divers was the losing pitcher.

GRAIN VALLEY 12, OAK GROVE 0: The host Eagles led 6-0 after one inning and went on to a Missouri River Valley Conference West victory.

Lexie Worden pitched a five-inning one-hitter and struck out eight as the Eagles posted their 10th consecutive victory after a season-opening loss and  remained undefeated in the conference at 5-0.

An 11-hit Grain Valley attack was paced by Taylor Mays’ two hits and four RBIs, including a bases-clearing triple, Lena Sanders’ two singles and double, Brooklynne Simbeck’s three hits and Courtney Folk’s home run.

“Our pitching held strong tonight,” Grain Valley coach Jim Oliver said. “It was good to see Courtney Folk break out with the long ball. The team is hitting better overall with good production from Sanders and Simbeck.”

Oak Grove fell to 4-11 and 0-5.
