The Blue Springs boys basketball team started strong and used some balanced scoring to earn a Suburban Big Six win over Raymore-Peculiar Tuesday night.
Four players scored in double figures as the Wildcats garnered a 72-62 victory at Blue Springs High School. The Cats got off to a 20-6 lead in the first quarter.
Jay Corwin scored 17 points, Walter Sorrells 16, Justin Pruitt 13 and Cody Isabel 11 to spark Blue Springs.
“We got off to the good start, did a good job of taking care of the ball and hitting free throws down stretch to solidify the win,” Blue Springs coach Adam Jones said.
Ray-Pec cut the Wildcats’ 20-6 lead to 22-16, but Blue Springs (12-8, 2-3 Big Six) regrouped to take a 36-26 advantage by halftime and went on for the victory.
FORT OSAGE 62, BELTON 48: Visiting Fort Osage remained undefeated in Suburban Middle Seven play as D’Vante Mosby tallied 11 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals Tuesday.
Zach Adams added 15 points, six rebounds and four steals, Austin Regier 13 points and Nathan Iloilo and Will Penamon eight points each.
“It was another good road Win,” Fort Osage coach Josh Wilson said. “It was pretty close at halftime and then we got down on defense and translated that into more easy offensive opportunities.”
Fort Osage (16-4, 8-0) led 24-20 at halftime.
PARK HILL SOUTH 43, TRUMAN 36: Truman all but fell out of the Suburban Middle Six race with the loss.
Lane Titus had nine points, DeWayne Thornton seven, Tom Ruddy six and Scott Agee five as Truman fell to 12-8 and 2-3.
GRAIN VALLEY 43, EXCELSIOR SPRINGS 40: A seven-game Grain Valley losing streak is over.
Daniel Mahurin’s 20 points, Jordan Mahurin’s nine and Caleb McKay’s eight led the Eagles to the Missouri River Valley Conference West victory Tuesday night at Excelsior Springs.
“It was exciting for our guys (to end the losing streak),” Grain Valley coach Andy Herbert said. “They played really hard and haven’t given up. I’m proud of them.”
The Eagles (6-13, 2-4) overcame a 20-16 halftime deficit.
VAN HORN 66, MARANATHA ACADEMY 35: The host Falcons locked down Maranatha in the Crossroads Conference victory Tuesday night.
DeMico Hawkins led Van Horn (7-13, 3-3) with 14 points, Robert Bluett added 14 and Anthony Winningham tallied 10 points and four assists.
“What let us run away with it was our defensive effort,” Falcons coach Daniel Bieser said.
OAK GROVE 63, PLEASANT HILL 39: Oak Grove jumped to a 34-24 halftime lead on the way to a Missouri River Conference West victory Tuesday.

LIBERTY 75, LEE’S SUMMIT 70: Drew Lock’s 28 points and 14 by Alex Evans couldn’t prevent the host Tigers from the Suburban Big Six defeat Tuesday.
Liberty (14-6, 2-3) made a 40-31 halftime advantage stand up for the victory. The Tigers fell to 8-11 and 2-3.
Girls
One of the Van Horn girls basketball team’s best efforts nearly netted a victory.
But despite getting a career-high 24 points from Kelsey Edwards, the Falcons dropped their ninth straight game with a 51-49 Crossroads Conference defeat to Maranatha Academy on Tuesday at Van Horn High School.
The game was close throughout. Van Horn (4-15, 0-6) led 14-10, 24-21 and 35-34 at the end of each quarter. Maranatha then rallied to outscore the Falcons 17-14 in the final period for the victory.
“We played a great game tonight,” Van Horn coach Julie Crowell said. “We have to capitalize on free-throw attempts, but felt we had a chance to win even at the end. I was very proud of the girls and their effort. We had a nice game by Kelsey Edwards.”
Maranatha shot 18 of 35 on free throws. Van Horn was 13 of 22.
BLUE SPRINGS 64, RAYMORE-PECULIAR 35: The Class 5 No. 4-ranked Wildcats picked up their 12th consecutive win by downing Ray-Pec in a Suburban Big Six road game on Monday.
Lizzy Wendell racked up 24 points, Karyla Middlebrook finished with 16 and Tyra Bickham added 12 to lead Blue Springs (19-2, 5-0).
