Blue Springs South softball suffered its first loss of the season Friday.
The Jaguars fell 3-2 to Lee’s Summit in a nine-inning game where both teams were scoreless until the ninth.
South put two runs on the board in the top of the ninth, but Lee’s Summit answered with three in the bottom of the inning. The Jaguars dropped to 7-1 overall and 1-1 in the Suburban Big Six.
South pitcher Megan Schwindler, a freshman, was throwing to fellow freshman Maddie Giles and coach Vickie Brummel said the pair did an outstanding job.
Brummel said mistakes resulted in the loss.
“We had some costly errors,” she said.
Kaitlin Schaberg had a big night at the plate for the Jaguars, going 2-for-3 with two intentional walks and a double.
TRUMAN 22, RUSKIN 0: The Patriots routed Ruskin in a three-inning contest Friday.
Three Truman pitchers combined for three no-hit innings of work. The Patriots also collected 15 walks during the rout. The Patriots improved to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the Suburban Middle Six. Emily Davis led the offense, going 2-for-2 with two singles and an RBI.
Megan Williams had a two RBIs and a double.
FORT OSAGE 4, RAYTOWN 3: The Fort Osage softball team battled back from an early deficit to defeat Raytown 4-3 in eight innings.
The Indians fell behind 3-1 in the first inning courtesy of some costly errors. They battled back, scoring one run in each of the fifth and sixth innings. Fort Osage took the lead in the top of the eighth and held on for the win.
Katy Divers (2-2) pitched all eight innings for the Indians, allowing six hits and striking out three.
Caitlyn Carter led the offense with a double and a single.
“They did a really good job of battling back after the first inning of errors,” Indians coach Kelly Sullivan said. “They did a great job as a team.”
RAYTOWN SOUTH 3, WILLIAM CHRISMAN 2: The Raytown South softball team defeated William Chrisman 3-2 on Friday night thanks to an inside-the-park home run.
Raytown South freshman Kaori Corn hit the homer to help Raytown South (2-6) start conference play with a win. Raytown South coach Kim Kirk said the score was a solid hit over the right-fielder’s head.
“She was due for a big hit,” Kirk said.
William Chrisman coach Mark Amos said the game was good experience.
“We had a great practice (Thursday),” Amos said. “We came away with a lot of positives. I think the kids are moving in the right direction.”
