Nieka Wheeler did her usual thing.
She scored 18 points to guide the William Chrisman girls basketball team to a 44-36 victory Thursday at Liberty. She also snatched 13 rebounds and four steals.
The 18 points lifted her season total to 316 in 17 games to rank second in the area (18.6 ppg). Blue Springs’ Lizzy Wendell has 319 in 17 games.
Chrisman (10-7) led 25-20 at halftime.
“Tonight was an excellent night for (us),” Chrisman coach Lindsay Thompson said. “We played smart, together and tough. We played an excellent defensive game and executed well on offense. Sykeya Horn did a great job defensively.”
Rachel Losch grabbed 12 rebounds to help the Bears to a 37-29 advantage.
Chiarra Franklin’s 16 points paced the Blue Jays (10-6).
LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 47, LEE’S SUMMIT 40: The Broncos secured the Suburban Big Six victory by outscoring the Tigers 12-6 in the fourth quarter Thursday night.
“We were 12 of 13 on free throws and that was huge,” North coach Tricia Lillygren said. “Offensive rebounding was a key late in the game. Jaden Powell had two huge rebounds in particular.”
Imani Johnson tallied 20 points and Erica Nelson added 12 to guide North (10-5, 1-1 conference). Abby Hinkle scored 14, Erin Irvin 11 and Mo Mosier 10 for the Tigers (7-9. 0-2), who failed to protect a 24-21 halftime lead.

CLINTON, Mo. – The Van Horn boys basketball team came up short in the semifinals of the Clinton Tournament.
On Thursday night, the Falcons fell 54-53 to Knob Noster despite Robert Bluett’s 14 points.
“We had no answer for their 6-foot, 8-inch kid, David Barton,” Falcons coach Daniel Bieser said. “He did whatever he wanted to do.”
Anthony Winningham and Isaiah Gotsis added nine points apiece for Van Horn (6-10).
ODESSA 54, GRAIN VALLEY 41: A 28-22 halftime lead stood up for Odessa in a consolation win in the Grain Valley Sonic Showdown.
The loss eliminated Grain Valley (5-11) from the tournament.
“I’m disappointed we’re aren’t going to play on Saturday (in the fifth-place game),” Eagles coach Andy Herbert said.
Daniel Mahurin scored 16 points, Jordan Mahurin added 11 and Hunter Ramirez finished with eight for the Eagles.
OAK GROVE 70, STALEY 55: The Panthers stayed alive in the Grain Valley Sonic Showdown and improved to 9-6. They’ll take on Odessa at noon Saturday for fifth place.
