■ GAME NOTES: Mavericks head to Colorado for the first time, looking for their first win when they take on the defending CHL Northern Conference champion Colorado Eagles. Colorado earned three points in two games last weekend against the defending President’s Cup Champion Texas Brahmas. The Eagles have been to the President’s Cup Finals in each of the last three seasons, losing the past two years and winning the cup in 2007.

Mavericks goaltender Mike Gorman played in 33 games for the Gorillas last season, and forward Bill Vandermeer played the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons with Amarillo. The Gorillas are 3-0 and lead the Southern Conference with six points.

■ LAST WEEK’S RESULTS: The Missouri Mavericks lost their inaugural season opener last Friday, 3-2, to the Rapid City Rush at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Arena. Carlyle Lewis and Sam Bowles each tallied a goal for the Mavericks, but Rapid City forward Colt King’s third period goal proved to be the difference. On Saturday, the Mavericks fell 5-2 to the Rush. Karey Pieper scored his first professional goal for Missouri and Sam Perkins also scored, but Rapid City scored four power-play goals to take control.
■ INJURIES: Kyle Bochek (upper-body injury) and Bill Vandermeer (illness) sat out both games at Rapid City.
■ MILESTONES: Two Mavericks’ players celebrated career milestones over the weekend. Jeff Christian played in his 1,200th pro game on Saturday night and Chad Hinz had his 400th pro point with an assist in the first period Saturday.
