Missouri Mavericks coach Scott Hillman's road warriors continued their winning ways away from the Independence Events Center as Sebastien Thinel collected three assists, Ryan Jardine scored a goal in his first game since coming off the injured reserve list Wednesday and Mike Clemente picked up his sixth win in a 3-1 victory over Bloomington Thursday night at US Cellular Coliseum.
“What makes this win so impressive is that this is the same team that beat us 7-0 a while back,” Hillman said by phone after his 9-8-2 Mavericks topped the .500 mark for the first time this season and won their fifth road game in a row.
The team record for road wins is six and the Mavs could accomplish that tonight when they visit Quad City for a 7:05 p.m. contest.
The Mavericks and Mallards then come to the Events Center for a 7:05 p.m. game Saturday, where Missouri will try to improve on its 2-5 home mark.
“Two road games this week and four points,” Hillman said. “We're disappointed in our home record for sure, but we're gaining a lot of confidence on the road.
“Sebbie was outstanding tonight. Those three assists make him the CHL scoring leader (29 points on seven goals and 22 assists) and it was great to see Jards come off the IR and get into the offense.
“And what can you say about Clemer? He is gaining confidence each night he's in the net. He and (Mathieu) Corbeil are two of the best young goaltenders in the league and give us a shot at winning every night they're in the net.”
Hillman said Thursday night's win over the Blaze didn't compare to the 7-5 victory at Tulsa earlier in the week.
“This was a complete effort, a solid 60 minutes,” Hillman said. “The 7-5 win showed we could come back from an early (2-0) deficit and hold on at the end. Tonight, the penalty kill was the backbone, but Captain Thinel with his fifth, sixth and seventh points in the last two games isn't bad either.”
The Blaze scored the lone goal of the first period when Dan Barczuk put the puck in the net at the 12:31 mark. Barczuk skated in on Clemente who made the initial save, but the puck rebounded high into the air and landed just over the goal line.
Missouri bounced back and took the lead in the second period with a pair of goals. First, Andrew Courtney tied the game on his third goal of the season at the 6:17 mark. Thinel earned the first of his three assists and Jardine notched an assist in his first game back after coming off injured reserve.

Missouri took a 2-1 lead on a goal by Evan Vossen as he took a feed from Thinel and beat Blaze goaltender Dan Dunn. The Mavericks outshot the Blaze 13-8 in the period and took the 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
Jardine finished off the scoring on the Mavericks third unanswered goal at the 3:27 mark of the final period. He one-timed a pass from Thinel and sent the puck through the five-hole of Dunn to give the Mavericks a 3-1 lead. Defenseman David Simoes had the second assist, and the Mavericks held the Blaze off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game.
