Andrew Courtney, the Missouri Mavericks representative at the 2012 CHL All-Star Game, has returned to the team and will be in the lineup when the Mavs host Bloomington at 7:05 p.m. Friday at the Independence Events Center.
“We've known where Andrew was all along and the timing was right to bring him back,” Mavericks coach Scott Hillman said. “I have to admit, there is a lot of excitement in the coaching office right now.”
Courtney, 27, returns to the Mavericks after tying the team's single-season record for goals (29) during the 2011-12 season, his rookie campaign. The 6-foot-3, 209-pound forward finished with 29 goals and 30 assists for 59 points in 63 games last season with the Mavericks and was named to the CHL's All-Rookie Team.
“We had to get a few games under our belt to see where we stood as a team,” Hillman added, “and now that we've done that, we're thrilled to bring Andrew back.”
The native of Belleville, Ontario played in all 11 playoff games last season and finished third on the team with 12 points (five goals, seven assists).
“We are pleased to bring Andrew Courtney back to the Mavericks,” president and general manager Brent Thiessen said. “Andrew has been a fan favorite and he will continue to work very hard to re-establish himself as a top player in the CHL.”
Courtney's return leaves the Mavericks with a roster of 20 players.
“We're fine roster wise right now,” Hillman said, “but we might make a move later in the week.”
Courtney will wear No. 27 as he has in the past for the Mavericks, meaning a few other players' numbers have changed. Kenton Miller will now wear No. 28 and Kellan Tochkin will wear No. 16.
