The Missouri Mavericks have signed a brother tandem.
Brothers Kyle Moir, a goaltender, and forward Tyler Moir have signed with the Central Hockey League team, bringing the preseason roster to 18 players.
The team will open training camp Oct. 8 at the Independence Events Center.
Kyle Moir, 26, was a fifth-round draft pick of the Nashville Predators in the 2004 National Hockey League Entry Draft. The Calgary, Alberta, native played his rookie season last year in Holland for Eindhoven Kemphanen, where he had a 3.64 goals-against average.
“Kyle had a really good university career,” Mavericks coach Scott Hillman said, “and before that, he had an outstanding high junior career.”
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound goalie played four seasons for Lakehead University and four seasons of junior hockey for the Western Hockey League’s Swift Current Broncos. He is the third goaltender signed by the Mavericks this offseason, joining B.J. O’Brien and Austin Lee.
“Kyle has so much potential,” added Hillman, “and we’re excited to see what he can do. This is his first taste of North American professional hockey and we think he can make us a better team.”
Tyler Moir, is a 6-1, 205-pound forward who played the last three seasons collegiately for the University of Waterloo and University of Alaska-Anchorage.
“Tyler will add a physical presence to our club,” Hillman said. “He’s going to make us tougher. He is a good skater who uses his speed to get in on the forecheck and create turnovers. We believe that his hard-nosed style of play will fit in well with the team we are putting together.”
