One reason the Missouri Mavericks have been such a hit in Eastern Jackson County is because the second-year Central Hockey League team always puts its fans first.
That’s why the Mavericks are so excited about the team’s first Fan Fest. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. August 14 on the main floor of the Independence Events Center.
The Fan Fest is free and is open to all fans, not just season ticket holders.
“We are very excited to host our first Fan Fest,” Mavericks president and general manager Brent Thiessen said. “This will be a great opening event for our fans as we get ready to make a run for a championship in our second season.”
The Mavs will make special announcements regarding the fan experience at home games, as well as announce a new player for the 2010-11 season.
Fans will also have the opportunity to meet and greet coach Scott Hillman and a number of the players who are signed to the roster for next season. Simon Watson, Derek Pallardy and Brett Hammond are expected to be at the event.
The Fan Fest will feature activities for all members of the family and concessions will be open throughout the day.
“This is just a great way to say ‘Thank you,’ to our fans,” Mavericks vice president of communications Patrick Armstrong said. “We’re thrilled to be able to do this almost two months to the day before the start of our second season.
“We know the fans are excited about the upcoming season, and so are we.”
Events included in the Fan Fest are:
• Mavericks players and Head Coach Scott Hillman will be on hand throughout the day to sign autographs and host question and answer sessions with the fans.
• Kids’ Zone with bouncy castles, a hockey shoot booth, obstacle course and video games.
• Broadcast Booth where Mavs fans can take their shot calling the play-by-play.
• Locker room tours.
• Fan videos to share most memorable Mavericks’ experiences.
• Fan pictures.
• Merchandise booth.
• Ticket Forum Demo Booth – Online demo of the Mavericks new ticket forum where fans can buy/sell/trade tickets with one another.
• Select-a-Seat for fans wishing to purchase season tickets.
Free Agent Showcase: The Mavericks inaugural Free Agent Showcase will be in full swing August 14 and fans are encouraged to attend at the community rink. The players, who are trying to earn a spot in the Mavericks training camp, will be skating before and after the Fan Fest including a scrimmage starting at 3 p.m.
Centerpoint Community Ice Rink will also have an open skate from 12-2 p.m. and those who mention the Mavericks will receive a discount price of $5 on skate rental. From 2-3 p.m. the rink is hosting a free Learn to Skate session.
