Mark Spigarelli’s plan was to only play all-state guard Tyonna Snow for half the game Monday. Those plans changed.

Snow returned after missing three straight games with a sprained ankle and scored 19 points to lift the Class 5 No. 4 Wildcats to a 45-40 Suburban Big Six Conference win over host Lee’s Summit.

Snow entered the contest in the first quarter with the Cats (17-4, 6-1 conference) looking sluggish and needing a spark. Spigarelli said the coaching staff was impressed by how nimble Snow looked and ended up riding her to the victory as the rest of the squad struggled for most of the game.

“She played exceptionally well,” Spigarelli said. “... Her presence was really big.”

Karyla Middlebrook added 13 points for Blue Springs.

The Cats also finished with a big advantage at the free throw line, shooting 25 of 33 from the stripe while the Tigers (8-10, 2-4) went 13 of 16.

BLUE SPRINGS SOUTH 52, PLATTE COUNTY 42: Cloe Lane scored 20 points and Stevie Anderson 10 to lead Blue Springs South to the victory in the opening round of the North Kansas City Tournament.

“It’s a win,” South coach Fawna Harrison said. “We played very sluggish and didn’t play defense very well. We will have to pick it up on Wednesday (at 8 p.m. against Park Hill in the semifinals).

STALEY 61, WILLIAM CHRISMAN 43: Visiting Staley outscored William Chrisman 24-14 in the fourth quarter to seal the nonconference victory.

VAN HORN 60, AFRICAN CENTERED EDUCATION 30: A 17-5 start ignited Van Horn to the victory at Southeast High School.

Camilla Neumann matched her season high with 36 points and Heather Earley added 10 as Van Horn improved to 6-7.

HARRISONVILLE 50, GRAIN VALLEY 30: Grain Valley’s Missouri River Valley West title hopes were dimmed in the loss at Harrisonville.
