The Blue Springs girls swimming and diving team took several big strides toward the program’s 12th consecutive Big Six Conference championship Friday as the Wildcats seized top seeds in seven events in the Suburban Conference Championships at Henley Aquatic Center.

The Cats’ position was fortified by their familiar leaders as senior Ibby Simcox clocked the best times in the 200-yard individual medley (2:14.79) and 100 butterfly (1:00.89) and Ashley Sturman was first in the 200 freestyle (2:01.13) and 500 freestyle (5:26.78).

Those two also helped Blue Springs to another pair of No. 1 seeds in the relay events. Simcox teamed with Corinne Rinne, Lexi Lezcano and Anna Juarez to post the best time in the 200 medley relay (1:54.11) while Sturman joined Lezcano, Juarez and Alyssa Aubuchon for a first-place time in the 200 freestyle relay (1:43.22).

Rinne added another top time in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.81).

Blue Springs South also positioned itself nicely in several events. In the 100 freestyle, Emily Zweerink (56.23) and Morgan Connors (56.28) are slated second and third, respectively. Bailey Barnett will start second in the 500 freestyle (5:34.16) and Kayla Canon will be second in the 100 backstroke (1:04.7).

Truman, competing in the Middle Six, received two fourth-place relay efforts. The Pats’ 200 medley relay team of Ellie Esry, Taylor Williams, Loise Yersin and Kaylee Miller clocked a 2:21.71. Kylie Malmberg joined Williams, Miller and Yersin to notch a 2:03.02 in the 200 freestyle relay.

The finals of the Suburban Conference Championships kick off at 8 a.m. Saturday with the diving finals at the Henley Aquatic Center. The swimming finals start at 1 p.m.
