Blue Springs cruises past Raytown South

Visiting Blue Springs had too much for Raytown South in the school’s season opener winning 25-12, 25-7.

“Stephanie Gordon played exceptionally well passing and on defense,” Raytown South coach Joe Maloney said.

South also took the junior varsity match 25-18, 25-17.

GRAIN VALLEY 14-25-25, LEXINGTON 25-13-20: Visiting Grain Valley overcame a first-game loss to defeat Lexington and open the season successfully.

“Incoming freshman Jordan Morrison led us offensively with 12 kills,” Grain Valley coach Keri Peterson said. “Jena Prue and Megan Epping defensively had nine kills each.”

LEE’S SUMMIT 25-25, LIBERTY 17-11: The season and Suburban Big Six opener turned out successfully for the visiting Tigers.

“Our team did well,” Lee’s Summit coach Roy Martin said. “We started offensively a little slow but the girls stayed patient and battled back. We got our ball control going. We did an excellent job hitting. We didn’t have many hitting errors at all.”

Elissa Knipp had six kills, Julia Myers 14 assists, and Sara Borneman and Kaitlynn Weyrauch nine digs each.”

Liberty posted a 25-22, 25-14 junior varsity victory.

OAK PARK 25-25, FORT OSAGE 12-15: The Indians fell to 0-2 to open the season in a non-conference loss at Oak Park.

“We continue to make a lot of errors,” Fort Osage head coach Sean Barrett said. “We really need to clean up our game. We need to get back to the basics.”

Fort Osage also lost the junior varsity match to Oak Park in two games 25-18 and 25-11.

STALEY 25-25, LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 23-23: Mackynzie Gibson’s five kills were not enough as the Broncos lost a season-opening, non-conference game at home.

OAK GROVE 17-25-25, HIGGINSVILLE 25-15-19: A slow start didn’t slow down visiting Oak Grove in the season opener.

“It felt really good to get a win against a good team to start the season off,” Oak Grove coach Amber Evans said.”The girls played hard and worked really well together.”

Arian Williams had 10 kills and Niki Baxter 12 assists in leading the Panthers.

The junior varsity match also went to Oak Grove 9-25, 25-16, 25-22.
