The first-year Independence Bears Junior American Legion team took first place in the Hi-Boy Invitational over the weekend.
The Bears topped the Blue Springs Elks 4-1 in the championship as Sam Scarbrough pitched a complete game while striking out seven. Eli Page and Gannon Ogle each chipped in with RBIs.
“The team has progressed quickly as they had only played two games prior to the tournament,” Bears manager Logan Scarbrough said.
