The Blue Springs South wrestling team split its dual with Columbia Hickman and Lee’s Summit North on Tuesday, but more importantly the Jaguars took a step forward in the eyes of coach Doug Black.
South upended Hickman 51-29 as Sam Hampton (120 pounds), Savon Alexander (126), Trey Storey (138), Wyatt Parker (182) and Christian Boyles (195) picked up pins and Sam Jackson (132) earned a decision at Blue Springs South High School.
Against North, the Jags fell 42-29. Hampton, Boyles and West notched pins while Storey garnered a decision and Mitch Hollis and Alexander won by major decision.
“I liked how our guys came out and competed,” Black said. “We lost a couple of matches that I thought would have swung matches, so we will go to work on those and make the improvements.”
