The Blue Springs South girls swimming and diving team took a rare trip to Raymore-Peculiar on Tuesday and produced a result that pleased coach Errich Oberlander.
The Jaguars split their triangular meet, topping Ray-Pec 179-112 and fell to Lee’s Summit North 205-97. The Broncos bested the Panthers 223-71.
North won 10 of the 12 events with Karlee Benefiel coming in first in the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 26.84 seconds) and 100 freestyle (58.88) and Haley Hynes snagging top times in the 500 freestyle (5:24.35) and 100 backstroke (1:00.19).
South’s Tessa Kraemer notched a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle (2:21.52) and Jansynn Radford was runner-up in the 100 butterfly (1:10.61). South’s 200 freestyle relay squad of Megan Childs, Anna Munoz, Sydney Dillon and Bailey McConnell also ended second in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 2:01.44.
“This was a nice meet for us because it was a change of pace,” Oberlander said. “(It was) the first dual meet of the season. It was also in a pool we don’t go to very often, so it was good to see our girls swim well in a new atmosphere. Some first-year swimmers really stepped up with some good swims in some events that were new to them this season.”
