A fast start offensively and defensively lifted the Blue Springs girls basketball team into the semifinals of the Visitation Academy Christmas Tournament.
Lizzy Wendell sank three 3-pointers on her way to 19 points as the Class 5 third-ranked Wildcats routed Class 3 No. 4 St. Louis Principia 51-16 Wednesday night in the quarterfinals.
The Wildcats (7-1) raced to a 22-2 lead after one quarter and turned it into a rout with a 16-5 third quarter.
“We got off to a very good start,” Blue Springs coach Mark Spigarelli said. “Principia is a well-coached team and a good 3-point shooting team, so we wanted to start fast offensively and not let them get hot, and we did both.”
Karyla Middlebrook added 10 points for the Wildcats, who meet Class 5 top-ranked St. Joseph’s Academy in the semifinals at 7 tonight.
