The Grain Valley girls tennis team remained on a roll by defeating Richmond 8-1 Thursday.

“We played well,” coach Randy Draper said of the Eagles’ fifth victory in six matches.

Mariah Hernandez (8-0), Jessica Dornes (8-2), Darby Scharfenkamp (8-1), Anna Wiechmann (8-1) and Chelsea Gabriel (8-1) were the Grain Valley singles winners.

Nathalia Barr and Hernandez (8-4), Dornes and Scharfenkamp (8-4) and Wiechmann and Gabriel (8-1) were doubles winners.

The junior varsity match also was claimed by the Eagles 6-1.

LEE’S SUMMIT WEST 9, BLUE SPRINGS 0: Visiting Lee’s Summit West was too much for the Wildcats.

“West is a good team with a lot of depth,” Blue Springs coach Carrie McAtee said. “We are getting a little better with each match and trying to make progress.

“With only one returner to the varsity this year and such a young, inexperienced team, we are going to take our knocks and we just have to  learn and continue to get better.”

PEMBROKE HILL 7, BLUE SPRINGS SOUTH 2: A solid Pembroke Hill team used five singles victories to defeat the visiting Jaguars.

“Tonight we faced one of the strongest teams in Class 1,” South coach Craig Dierking said. “Pembroke Hill has been our toughest competition so far this year and tonight we came out strong and really put our best foot forward.”

Isabella Bowling prevailed 10-5 in singles and teamed up with Liia Butler for a doubles victory.
Pembroke Hill took the junior varsity match 5-4.
