Blue Springs junior Corinne Rinne put herself in great position to have a go at a state championship.
With a time of 1 minute, 5.48 seconds, Rinne clocked the top time in the 100-yard breaststroke in Friday’s preliminaries of the MSHSAA State Championships at the Rec-Plex in St. Peters in suburban St. Louis. Sophomore Ashley Sturman will join her teammate in the championship round Saturday as she notched the sixth seed in the 500 freestyle (5:07.93) and was seventh in the 200 freestyle (1:55.7). The top-eight finishers advance to the championship heat.
The Wildcats 200 freestyle squad also advanced to the finals by registering a sixth-place time of 1:41.49.
Rinne came in 12th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.96 while Blue Springs’ 200 medley (1:52.66) and 400 freestyle relay (3:43.42) will take 10th and 12th seeds, respectively, into Saturday’s consolation race.
Senior Emily Zweerink was the only Blue Springs South swimmer to qualify for the championship round, recording a seventh-place time of 24.71 in the 50 freestyle.
