Columbia, MO —

6:08 p.m. -- Tyler Thompson just missed out on a state title, and barely.

Trailing 3-2 with just seconds left, Thompson went for a roll and just barely missed getting the escape. In fact, if he had two seconds left, he gets the escape and sends it to overtime.

These two went to a one-point match last week in the district final.

Now it is all on Josh Howk at 140 if Blue Springs is going to take second.

Essentially, if he wins this match, Blue Springs pretty much clinches second place. If he loses to Drake Houdashelt of Fort Zumwalt West, then Blue Springs settles for third behind Zumwalt.

And though Oak Grove is done wrestling, a win by Harrisonville’s Ben Hunter just clinched third place for the Panthers.

Hunter defeated Dylan Marriott of Excelsior Springs in the Class 2 135-pound title match. That win means Excelsior can win only one state title and can’t score enough points to catch the Panthers.
